"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore"

I just had to do it...I had to go there : )

Well, as you may have gathered, I'm not in Kansas anymore. I am in Farmington, Missouri., at my aunt Vonnies house and I am having so much fun with her. They say that laughter is the best medicine. Well, being here should heal everything that I may have ; )

I haven't seen her in about 8 years and to be honest, the last time I saw her, I wasn't sure I was ever going to see her again. Which makes this trip, being with her, that much more special.

I left Hays, Kansas yesterday morning around 9:00am and headed to St. Louis Missouri. On my way out I stopped to get gas and guess who I saw there? The actual Storm Chaser people! You know, from the show on the Travel Channel... I thought, this can't be a good sign. But again, I journeyed on. And guess what, the weather was gorgeous. Pretty blue skies, big, puffy white clouds. Not a raindrop in sight.

As I was saying in my last blog, I'm related to Judy Garland (Dorothy, from The Wizard of OZ) so I saw it fitting to stop at the OZ museum and Wamego, Kansas. It was really cool being in the atmosphere of that movie and all the great actors that played in it. I then went to the OZ winery, that was really cool, and both were in that little town of Wamego, Kansas. It was one of those towns where they parked diagonally on the street; very cute.

I also stopped at this place called Fort Riley in Junction City, Kansas, they wouldn't let me in to look around or even take pictures but, I got one anyway ; )

When I went through Kansas City, Kansas, I felt like I barely made it out alive! I mean, you REALLY have to know where you're going in order to get there, alive and sane. There are like 37 freeways, even more signs, road signs, ad road rules I've never even heard of; it was a really intense. 15 minutes of crazy, fast, gotta-think-on-your-toes, kinda driving. But, on a positive note about Kansas, they have signs above any construction they may be having saying sorry for the mess and that they understand how inconvenient it is only having one lane. I thought that was nice and considerate : )

After that it was smooth sailing all the way to Vonnies. Missouri ended up being NOTHING like I thought it was gonna be, it was a huge pleasant surprise. For some reason I thought it was going to be brown, rocky, red clay, nothingness. It's not. It's the most picturesque sight I have ever seen. Green everywhere, rolling hills, the freeways are nice and spread out. So many different kinds of trees such as Hickory, Oak, Elm, Cedar, Walnut...It's a nice change : ) There are so many other nice things I could say about Missouri, but I'll leave a little to the imagination ; )

Last night when I arrived at Vonnies, it started storming. I'll be honest, I got so scared. I know that it probably wasn't that big of a deal, but to me it was. Because I'm only used to Oregon weather, so if I was in Oregon and it was doing what it was doing last night, I would've been fine. And it didn't help that while we were sitting on the porch right before it started Vonnie slowly looks over to the right and says quietly, "I've never heard that noise before..." I FREAKED out, ran inside and covered up with the blankets. It was a lightning and thunder storm, complete with sideways rain, and then it dissipated after about an hour, then we had a glass of sparkling wine and toasted to each other, my trip, and good relationships : )

This morning when we woke up the sky was crystal clear, the prettiest blue I'd ever seen.
Today Vonnie and I ran some errands, had lunch and pampered ourselves at Le Salon Cheveu. It was a nice day spent with someone really special : )

This evening the weather turned gray again, and there are severe thunderstorm warnings going out, so we are going to go home and get in our p.j's and watch movies!

I'm glad I'm here : )
